ETL process is to extract the data from the source systems. Most data warehousing projects consolidate data from different source systems.

Transformation

Transformation is the process where data from each source is mapped, cleansed and reconciled so it all can be tied together. Series of rules or functions is applied to the extracted data to derive the data to be loaded.

Loading

The load phase loads the data into the data warehouse where a history and audit trail of all changes to the data is maintained.
